When cycling in Europe I found it was often really difficult to find internet access, particularly in smaller towns. So many people there have their own computer that there is not the business for cafes. The other problem I had was only being able to communicate in English! Cost was a massive factor also - particularly in Switzeralnd. Some hostels were charging one euro for just five minutes. Closed shop days also created problems as I was not sure, just getting into the cycle tour, how far I would get each day. The system worked well once I managed to stay with a host, then I could contact the next host from there.

32 % use more than one method ...

Hullo .. as the creator of that poll,I have to say it seems a pity we can't offer *more than one* response ... it would be so useful to know more closely *which* methods people are using,if they use more than one, so we could perhaps enhance the service. I gotta say, too, I am intrigued with the result " none of these" : I wonder how *else* people can use WSL beyond the methods listed ..?

use more than one method

I use my I-POD touch as it allows the use of e-mail and I can search the web. The I-POD reacts to internet hot spots and it works very well and it's VERY small. Also I use public
libraries and you will find many many small towns have a library.
Thanks

When you really need something, there is always a way!

In order to accomodate Grace
the creator of the poll above
I invite the 20 voters to, please, add comments
right here,
so he can distingish your real needs
in the multiple choice he gave you in the first place.

I personally offer to contribute to help the computing of the results in accordance to the eventual new input.

Access WSL on Tour

You forgot to list public libraries. They're more numerous than internet cafes and FREE. They ALL offer free computers.

Free libraries?

Not in orange Co, FL. They want $5.00 for an out-of-county resident to sign up for a library card to use the computer. Been there, done that. We moved on down the road.

I use several methods, mostly offline

I can access the web from my laptop since it has wifi and I can tether my cellphone to it, but that is relatively slow and not always reliable.

I have the spreadsheet of the states along my route, but have also imported them into Delorme Street Atlas and Topo USA so that even if I am not online, I can still look on my laptop and see who is near my route. While that just gives me names, it is easy to look the names up in the spreadsheet to try to contact them.
