.."Less is more".. ;)
-Koga Miyata("Randonneur") + Tubus panniers =ca 11.5kg and able to load around 50 Kg.
I carry what i need and nothing else; Therefore loading:ca 12-15 Kg!
-All included:Clothes, tent, downsleeping bag,mattress(2.5cm..I love to sleep comfortable and warm),burner, fuel, water, tools, spare parts, boots, sandals, helm etc.. etc...
I prefer traveling light and therefore fast and uncomplicated..
30-200km a day.-Average:70Km/day with average 26km/h.I love that feeling !
-On a 5 month autumn/winter trip through Central Europe.Mostly wild camping and cooking daily.Temp between warm and ÷15°c.(-frozen waterbottle,-not me.;)
Climbing in Adrspach and hiking some weeks in High and low Tatra.
Part of December in Dresden working as Smith and boofen/climbing with locals.
5 month then backhome. -I didn't really miss anything...Slept warm and comfortable in my tent, biking light and fast.
All hightech gear:Koga Miyata,Ortlieb,Tubus Primus Hilleberg Etc.. -Light strong reliable and extreme durable.
-Also nice detail:I experienced one flat tyre on these ca 7.500Km!
Probably while I am able to travel so light..
Despite the fact we have ca 80-90% asphalt roads in Europe and mostly around 1/2-1 hour ride to next food facility; I often meet bikers with expensive lightweight mountainbikes equipped with slowing tyres and tons of heavy stuff (fore whatever might happen..?)(-They are not all from Germany;)-And funny:We still run the same routes...!
-Why bring a lorry when you can do with a sports car..;)
"Fair winds.

panniers or trailer
Panniers or trailer, we use both. Since we travel on a tandem and do self supported camping trips, we have to carry on one bike 2 of almost everything, and some of the single items are larger (tent for one). We also have to transport some personal medical equipment. The BOB trailer carries all of the camping equipment, food and the medical equipment. Each of us uses a rear and a front pannier. The rear panniers have our clothing. The front panniers have personal items as well as some food, books, notebooks, film (yes we use a 35mm camera and a digital), playing cards, etc. Other items carry rain gear, the cameras, the days’ lunch supplies, small tools, and parts. Because of the weight of the camping equipment, most of the weight is in the BOB. Furthermore since the tent and sleeping bags are not on the bike we can easily get into the top loading rear panniers if we need to during the day. We try to wash our bike clothing each night and hope that they are dry before we move on the next day. If not the BOB provides a large surface to spread out the still damp clothing. We use bungee cords to hold the clothing in place by running the cords through the leg and armholes. Clip type clothespins hold items like socks to the bungee cords. The sun and breeze from riding dry the clothing in a couple hours and by lunch we have them packed into the rear panniers. For us, this is the best way to go.
panniers or trailer
As my user name implies when i "tour" its usually for at least several months. i carry more than most because i basically live on the bike, and do not have a destination or timetable.I am sure most "bicycle tourist" would be flabbergasted at some of what i carry. So i utilize a complete set of panniers and rack bags and a custom made trailer.

It would be intresting to see a list of what you take with you on on your long trips
